TNPSC :

It is mandatory for the applicants (TNPSC Group Exams) to register their basic particulars through One Time online Registration system on payment of Rs.150/- (Rupees One Hundred and Fifty only) towards registration fee and then should apply online for this recruitment. (The One-Time Registration will be valid for 5 years from the date of registration. Thereafter, the registration should be renewed by paying the prescribed fee.

Combined Civil Services Examination – I (TNPSC Group-I).

TNPSC group –I  Direct recruitment against the vacancies in the following posts : Deputy collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category – I), Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes), Deputy Registrar of Co-Operative Societies, Assistant Director of Rural Development ,District Officer (Fire and Rescue Services).

 Age limit :

For all the posts except the post of Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes )

 1.Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 37 (For SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs and Destitute Widows of all Castes.)

2.Others : Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 32

  1. Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes)

(i). For applicants possessing any degree : Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 37 (For SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs and Destitute Widows of all Castes.)

Others: Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 32

(ii) For applicants possessing B.L. degree of any University or Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission.

Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 38 (For SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs and Destitute Widows of all Castes.)

Others: Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 33

Age Concession

(i) For Differently Abled Persons

Differently Abled Persons are eligible for age concession upto 10 years over and above the maximum age limit prescribed above.

For Ex-Servicemen

  • The maximum age limit is 53 years for the applicants who belong to SCs,SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs and BCMs.
  • The maximum age limit is 48 years for “Others” (i.e.) applicants not belonging to any of the above said categories.
  • The above mentioned age concession will not apply to the Ex-Servicemen applicants who have already been recruited to any class or service or category.

Note:”Others” [i.e., applicants not belonging to SCs, SC(A)s, STs,MBCs/DCs, BCs and BCMs] who have put in 5 years and more of service in the State / Central Government are not eligible to apply even if they are within the age limit.

Education Qualifications:

*Applicants should possess a degree of any of the Universities.

 For :

1.Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category I) :

Preference shall be given to candidates who possess National awards for Physical efficiency.

2.Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes):

First preference :A degree both in Commerce and Law together with a Diploma in Taxation laws.

Second preference : A degree both in Commerce and Law.

Third preference :A degree either in Commerce or Law together with a Diploma in Taxation laws.

Fourth preference :A degree either in Commerce or Law. 

  1. Assistant Director of Rural Development Department :
  2. Post Graduate Degree in Rural Service of the Gandhigram Rural Institute, Madurai District.

ii.Post     Graduate Degree    or Diploma in Extension.

iii.   Post  Graduate  Degree   or Diploma in Sociology.

Exam Pattern:

*Applicants should possess adequate knowledge in Tamil on the date of this notification. 

Preliminary Examination : 

General Studies – 175 Questions (Degree standard)

Mental Ability – 25 Questions(10th std)

Total 200 Questions . 300 marks.

Main Written  Exam and Oral Test:

General Studies – Descriptive type (Degree Standard)

Paper – I  : 250 Marks

Paper – II : 250 Marks

Paper – III : 250 Marks

Interview and Records : 100 Marks

The questions on General Studies will be set in both Tamil and English.

Main Written Examination will be held at Chennai (Code:0100) only.


Combined Civil Services Examination – II / IIA (TNPSC Group-II – Interview Posts / IIA-Non – Interview Posts).

Selection for the following posts is made in three successive stages
(i) Preliminary Examination (ii) Main Written Examination and (iii) Oral Test (group II)

Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars), Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities, Backward Classes, Backward Classes (Muslims) and Destitute Widows of all categories:Minimum 18 years – Maximum no age limit. Others : 18 – 30 years. 

2. Sub-Registrar Grade- II : Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars), Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities, Backward Classes, Backward Classes
(Muslims) and Destitute Widows of all categories : Minimum 20 years – Maximum no age limit. Others : 18 – 30 years. 

  1. Probation Officer in Prison Department : Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars), Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities, Backward Classes, Backward Classes (Muslims) and Destitute Widows of all categories : Minimum 22 years – Maximum no age limit. Others : 18 – 30 years. 
  1. Probation Officer in Social Defence Department :Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars),Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities, Backward Classes, Backward Classes (Muslims) and Destitute Widows of all categories : Minimum 26 years – Maximum no age limit. Others : 18 – 40 years.

Group II A:  For Scheduled Castes /Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars), Scheduled Tribes,  Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities,Backward Classes (Other than Muslim), Backward Classes (Muslims) and Destitute Widows of all castes :Minimum – 18 – Maximum no age limit. Others 18 – 30.

Education Qualification :

A Bachelor’s degree of any university or Institution.

The educational qualification prescribed for this recruitment should have been obtained by passing the required qualification in the order of studies viz. 10th + HSC or its equivalent +U.G. degree / degree in Law.

(According to G.O.Ms.No.139, Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Per.M) Department, dated 07.10.2009, the applicants who possess the professional degree are eligible to this recruitment except for the posts of Industrial Co-Operative Officer in the Industries and Commerce Department, Assistant Section Officer in Law Department in Secretariat, Assistant Section Officer in Finance Department in Secretariat, Assistant Section Officer Cum-Programmer in Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and Revenue Assistant in the Revenue Department in various Revenue Units-)

Applicants should possess adequate knowledge in Tamil.

Exam Pattern :

 Preliminary Examination (Objective Type – Degree Standard) :

General studies – 175 items

Aptitude – 25 items

Total = 200 items and 300 marks.

Main Written Examination :

Paper – I : 1.Tamil to English Translation  and English to Tamil Translation. 100 marks.

Paper II (Degree Standard) :

1.Precis Writing 2.Comprehension 3.Hints Development 4.Essay Writing on Thirukkural 5.Letter Writing (Official) – 300 marks.

Oral Test 40 marks for Group II.


Combined Civil Services Examination – 4 (TNPSC Group-IV/VAO).

TNPSC group IV _ Direct recruitment against the vacancies in the following posts included in the Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service, Tamil Nadu Judicial Ministerial Service, Tamil Nadu Survey and Land Records Subordinate Service, Tamil Nadu Secretariat Service and Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat Service, Typist,Steno-Typiest and Village Administrative officer.

Age limit  for TNPSC Group IV :

1.Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 40 (For SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs and Destitute Widows of all Castes.)

2.Others : Minimum Age 21 : Maximum : 30

          No maximum age limit for candidates belonging to SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs,BCMs and Destitute Widows of all castes who possess a General Educational Qualification which is higher than the Minimum General Educational Qualification (i.e. who have passed P.U.C / H.S.C / Diploma /Degree).

 For the posts of Junior Assistant (Non-Security), Junior Assistant (Security),
Bill Collector-Grade I. Field Surveyor. Draftsman. Typist and Steno-Typist (Grade -III):

Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyar). Scheduled Tribes and
Destitute Widows of all castes : 18-35

Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities. Backward Classes and
Backward Classes (Muslims) : 18-32

’Others’ (i.e.. Candidates not belonging to SCs. SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs. BCs and BCMs ] : 18 – 30

For the persons who are trained in Survey in ITI in Tamil Nadu, in respect of posts of Field Surveyor and Draftsman only :18 – 35

Education Qualification of TNPSC Group IV :

*TNPSC group IV Village Administrative Officer,Junior Assistant (Non – Security),Junior Assistant (Security), Bill Collector Grade-1,Field  Surveyor, Draftsman :

Must have passed S.S.L.C. Public Examination

*TNPSC Group IV_Typist :

Must have passed S.S.L.C. Public Examination and must have passed the Government Technical Examination in Typewriting (Higher grade in Tamil and English or Higher grade English and Lower grade Tamil or Higher grade Tamil and Lower grade English).

*TNPSC Group IV _Steno – Typist (Grade III) :  

Must have passed S.S.L.C. Public Examination and must have passed the Government Technical Examination in Typewriting and Shorthand  (Higher grade in Tamil and English or Higher grade English and Lower grade Tamil or Higher grade Tamil and Lower grade English).

Note :

  • “Intermediate Grade is not equivalent to Senior Grade.”
  • Those who have not passed SSLC Examination or its equivalent are not eligible even if they possess a higher qualification.
  • Applicants should possess adequate knowledge of Tamil on the date of this Notification.

TNPSC Group IV/VAO – Scheme of Examination (Objective type) OMR Method : 

Single Paper : (S.S.L.C. Std.)

General Studies (75 items) + Aptitude 25 items + Language (Tamil/English) 100 items.

Total 200 items. 300 Marks.
